Our School Plan Progress 2022-2023

Improving Student Learning

The Abbotsford School District’s Strategic Plan reflects our public commitment to BC’s new curriculum by working together to continuously improve learning for each student.

School Goals

Under the Framework for Enhancing Student Learning, all Abbotsford School District schools are required to develop a long term plan to improve student achievement, one that maintains a balance on the intellectual, social and career development of students. Each year, each school develops an annual plan and sets individual goals to improve student achievement.

Clearbrook Elementary School Goals

Our students will learn key academic skills - like reading, writing and math - to encompass the knowledge and processes associated with intellectual development. As learners and meaning-makers, students take subject-specific concepts and content and transform them into a new understanding.

Daily Five

Students reading to themselves, with a friend, working with words, and practicing their writing.

What do I know?

Learning Targets and Self-Reflection give Clearbrook students the power to identify what they know, what they are learning, and what they still need to work on. By understanding their own learning, they can advocate for themselves and what they need to be successful.

Human & Social

Our students will study personal and human social skills and as they relate to students' identity in the world - both as individuals and as members of their community. We are learning that personal and human social skills encompass the abilities students needs to thrive as individuals, to understand and care about themselves and others, and to find and achieve their purposes in the world.

Our celebrations of learning

Celebrating Many Cultures

Clearbrook is a diverse school community that celebrates many cultures - Diwali, Lunar New Year, Carnaval, Christmas, and so much more!

Green Team

Caring for our environment is something our Green Team takes very seriously! They are wonderful environmental ambassadors and leaders in the school.

Clearbrook's Soup-er Bowl

The Soup-er Bowl is an annual event supporting the Abbotsford Food Bank. This pre-Christmas event allows students and their families the opportunity to support those in need. To add a little extra fun, there is friendly competition, the class earning the most points is crowned the Soup-er Bowl champions!

Indigenous Education

Increasing the sense of belonging of Indigenous students at school and celebrating cultural pride in Indigenous students are district-wide goals. Clearbrook Elementary’s Indigenous Support Worker supports the individual academic goals of our Indigenous students and teaches all Clearbrook students about Indigenous culture. Our school proudly participates in yearly events such as Orange Shirt Day, Rock Your Moccasin’s Day and National Indigenous People’s Day. In June we hold our annual Indigenous Awards Ceremony to recognize and celebrate student achievement. In 2020, Clearbrook commissioned and received our stunning new cedar bench from local artist Rocky LaRock. Clearbrook also commissioned a beautiful nature-them mural from local artist Pencil Fingerz.  The bench and mural are the focal point to our school’s entrance.

Our students will succeed in a much different future from the one we envisioned 10 or 15 years ago. It is our responsibility to prepare all children for success in whatever life path they choose, connecting learning opportunities with future career possibilities. We know that real-life experiences - like community involvement, gaining business knowledge, and hands-on-learning - build better students and life-long citizens.

What will I do when I grow up?

Wondering what career they may choose is a question asked by all students. Having the opportunity to see what some career possibilities might be, including a visit from the Mayor of Abbotsford, Abby Police, and the Urban Safari, helps their spirit of discovery.

Learning how to code will not only be an important skill heading into the future, but it's also a lot of fun. Coding helps students think both creatively and critically in order to solve a problem!

Combining Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math helps students develop skills in communication, problem solving. Using different materials, and in many different settings, students focus on the process - and come up with an array of creative solutions!
