Highlights - Board Meeting - Sept. 22, 2020

The Abbotsford Board of Education regularly meets throughout the school year. Agendas and minutes from the public Board Meetings can be accessed through the District's Electronic School Board. Below is a summary of highlights from the meeting. To do our part to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and for everyone's safety, all public meetings of the Abbotsford Board of Education will be closed to the public and held virtually until further notice. The meetings will also be live-streamed.

Toti:ltcha Future Learning Plan - Restart Strategy
Superintendent Godden presented the latest copy of Toti:ltcha to the Board of Education. This plan is developed around key features related to health, safety, teaching and learning, and details what families, students and staff expect in schools and sites across the district during the 2020-21 school year.

2020-2021 School Start Up Report
Superintendent Godden presented the 2020-2021 School Start Up Report to the Board of Education. A significant amount of the work to maintain and enhance our schools is completed during the summer months. The report summarizes the efforts of staff to prepare classrooms for student attendance for September 2020.

Yale Hockey Academy Fees for 2020-2021
Although academy fees for 2020-21 were approved by the Board of Education at the May 26, 2020 Public Board Meeting, the COVID-19 pandemic has warranted increased costs. Over the past two years, the Yale Hockey Academy has gone through a substantial re-structuring which has included a relocation to the Summit Centre, and the creation of forward-thinking instructional practices focused on inquiry curriculum facilitated through blended learning.

2019-2020 Audited Consolidated Financial Statements 
Section 157 of the BC School Act states financial statements must be prepared on or before September 15th of each year, in accordance with public sector accounting principles; the Financial Statements of the District must be signed by the Chair of the Board, Superintendent and the Secretary-Treasurer; a copy must be forwarded to the Minister prior to September 30th; and they must be published for distribution to the public prior to December 31st. A copy of the audited financial statements for the fiscal year July 1, 2019 to June 30, 2020 was presented to the Board of Education.

Transportation Update: Policy 17 Conveyance of Students and AP 307 Transportation of Students To and From School
Over summer, our student transportation services were re-designed to meet the requirements in our “Restart Plan” which included changes related to the COVID-19 pandemic. Since Spring 2020, the Transportation Department has worked to be compliant with the evolving health and safety guidelines for student transportation. This has resulted in changes to bus routes and an overall reduction in the number of eligible riders for this school year. To determine these service levels, the priorities for transportation services outlined in Board Policy 17 - Conveyance of Students were considered.
