Kindergarten Registration Information

How do you prepare your Preschooler for School?

As a parent, how do you know what skills and knowledge are really important for school success?

Should you be teaching letters? What is more important for developing printing, playing with cars on the floor or practicing letter formation?

Kindergarten teachers & community partners are having open houses at local Abbotsford schools. Please join us!

Parents, and their children (3 - 5 years old in 2019) are invited to come to a RSL event at their neighbourhood school.

Every child will be given a bag of learning supplies and activities to make learning fun!

Parents/caregivers will be given a resource book with ideas about how to support their child in using these materials.

Please contact your neighbourhood school to register for the RSL session.

Some schools are doing a series of activities to support our early learners and more information is available at your school.

One of the most important things you can do to make sure that your child is successful at school, is to be involved!

Kindergarten Registration

Kindergarten Registration opens January 20, 2020. Families must register at their neighbourhood catchment school.
The Abbotsford School District is proud to offer a wide range of educational options for all types of learners. In addition to excellent neighbourhood schools, we offer District Programs that include French Immersion, Integrated Arts, Nature Kindergarten and Traditional Schools. If your child is turning 5 in 2020, it is time to register for Kindergarten! Come learn with us!

Kindergarten registration begins every January for children who will begin school the following September, via a Gradual Entry process.

How do I register for Kindergarten?

Enter your primary home address into our School Locator portal to determine your neighbourhood catchment school.
Register with your neighbourhood catchment school on January 20, 2020 - regardless of where you want to send your child.
Was your child born outside of Canada? Set up an appointment with the School Board office to complete initial registration. Call (604) 859-4891 to make your appointment.
Was your child born in Canada? Complete AP336 - Student Registration & Catchment forms also found below and take your registration and appropriate documents to your neighbourhood catchment school on January 20, 2020.

Interested in District Programs?

Parents must register at their neighbourhood catchment school before applying for District Programs. A lottery draw process is used for our District Programs. The lottery draw registration reservation process for District programs opens January 21, 2020. For specific registration information, contact the school and/or attend an information night (dates below). By late February you should hear back whether you have a space in the school or program. If you have not heard back by early March, please contact the school Principal of your neighborhood catchment school and they will help you find out about your child’s status.

PLEASE NOTE: Auguston Traditional Elementary is excluded from the District Programs Lottery Draw Process.

Here are the 2020 District Program Info Sessions:

Wednesday, Jan. 8th Traditional (held at both South Poplar, King) 6:30-7:30 pm
Monday, Jan. 13th Arts Integration (ASIA-North Poplar) 6:30-7:30 pm.

What if I want to apply to a school in different neighbourhood catchment?

If you are interested in having your child attend a school that is not your catchment school, then you will need to apply through the out of catchment form (AP 336 - 4). Applications will be received by the requested school beginning February 1, 2020. The cross-boundary application deadline is February 2020. Cross-boundary applications will only be considered once all catchment students have been accommodated. Application does not guarantee acceptance.

Where can I get more information or help if I run into any difficulties?
